Trâu or buffalo is a familiar animal to the Vietnamese farmers.

The images of “trâu buộc” (literrally means “a tied buffalo”) and “trâu ăn” (literrally means “an eating buffalo) represent the opposition in the circumstances of the two subjects.

“Buộc” is the state in which the buffalo is tied to another object by a rope and cannot move, so it feels very difficult, miserable, and oppressed.

“Ăn” is the state in which the buffalo is in a free and comfortable condition to graze.
