Hóc bà tó là một cụm từ được người dân miền Tây Nam bộ sử dụng để chỉ nơi xa xôi, vắng vẻ.
“Hóc” là một từ cổ chỉ dòng nước nhỏ. Hóc Bà Tó chỉ dòng nước nhỏ/rạch nhỏ mang tên “Bà Tó”.
Trước kia, “hóc” thường ở giữa những khu rừng hoang vắng, do vậy mà dần dần “Hóc bà tó” được dùng để chỉ những nơi xa xôi, hẻo lánh.
