At VLS, the celebration of Teachers’ Day goes beyond traditional appreciation; it’s an exciting, action-packed event that gives students an opportunity to express their gratitude in creative ways. This year, VLS continued its tradition of hosting engaging and interactive contests to celebrate the wonderful teachers who shape our educational journeys. Whether you are a language enthusiast, a budding teacher, or someone who loves to explore new ideas, these contests offer a chance to showcase talents while celebrating the culture of learning.

A Tradition of Creativity and Gratitude

The goal of these contests is simple: to honor and celebrate the teachers who have inspired and influenced students in meaningful ways. VLS has successfully hosted similar contests in the past, and this year’s edition was no exception, bringing both fun and learning to the forefront. Creative Writing Contest: Honoring a Teacher or Mentor

The Creative Writing Contest provided students with the opportunity to reflect on their own educational journeys by writing about a teacher or mentor who had a significant impact on their lives. This contest was a heartfelt way for students to express gratitude to those who guided them, challenged them, and left lasting impressions.

In this contest, students could choose any teacher or mentor who had shaped their learning experiences. Whether it was a high school English teacher who sparked a love for literature or a language mentor who helped them master Vietnamese, the possibilities were endless. The students’ writing ranged from emotional narratives to fun and humorous stories, all centered around the themes of inspiration, growth, and transformation. It was a beautiful reminder of how a great teacher can impact a student’s life in ways that go beyond the classroom.

As we read through the entries, we were truly moved by the depth of emotion, thoughtfulness, and creativity that flowed from each piece. So You Think You Can Teach: A Mini-Lesson Challenge

In the “So You Think You Can Teach” contest, students were invited to step into the role of a teacher for a day. The challenge was simple: deliver a 30-minute lesson to a group of VLS teachers, staff, and students. The topic and format were entirely up to the contestants, but it had to be relevant and educational.

This contest was a true test of both creativity and communication skills. Students not only had to be knowledgeable about their chosen subject but also needed to engage us – the audience, making the lesson both informative and interactive. The diverse topics covered in the contest ranged from language lessons to cultural discussions, showcasing the participants’ depth of understanding and teaching abilities.

Watching our participants take on this challenge with such enthusiasm and confidence was truly inspiring. It was amazing to see how they engaged us, and made their lessons come alive. We were genuinely impressed by the creativity, dedication, and professionalism each student brought to their mini-lesson. 

Daily Vlog Contest

For those who love technology and storytelling, the Daily Vlog Contest offered an exciting platform to showcase creative skills. Participants could take viewers on a journey through their day, sharing their experiences while learning and immersing themselves in the Vietnamese language.

The vlogs were a delightful mix of educational content and entertainment. Our participants took their viewers to their personal language-learning experiences, sharing challenges, successes, and even funny moments as they practiced Vietnamese. The vlogs were not only informative but also engaging, allowing viewers to experience the journey through the eyes of the contestants.

We were amazed by the creativity and effort put into each vlog. The attention to detail, and the ability to share their personal stories in such a relatable and entertaining way left us in awe. The participants truly captured the essence of Vietnam and their learning experiences, and we couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride for all of them.

Speech Contest: Celebrating Vietnamese Culture

One of the most culturally enriching contests was the Speech Contest, which invited participants to share their knowledge and passion for Vietnamese culture. The challenge was to give a speech that explored the beauty of Vietnamese traditions, from its exquisite culinary delights to its artistic expressions, unique festivals, and traditional clothing.

Contestants had to demonstrate both their understanding of Vietnamese culture and their public speaking skills. The speeches were moving, educational, and entertaining, offering a rich and diverse exploration of Vietnam’s culture.

We were deeply touched by the students’ performances. Their speeches were not only informative but delivered with passion and pride, and it was clear that each participant had spent a great deal of time researching and reflecting on the cultural topics they shared. Their deep respect and love for Vietnamese traditions shone through, and we were in awe of their eloquence and ability to captivate the audience.

Golden Bell Challenge: Trivia Fun with Vietnamese Culture

The Golden Bell Challenge was a trivia-style contest that tested participants’ knowledge of Vietnamese language, culture, and daily life. With a set of questions covering topics such as Vietnamese history, food, festivals, and customs, this contest was both fun and educational. Participants had to recall facts and demonstrate their familiarity with the nuances of Vietnamese life, all while competing against their peers in a fast-paced, friendly atmosphere.

The energy in the room was electric! The rapid-fire nature of the trivia had everyone on the edge of their seats, and it was thrilling to see how quickly our contestants answered tough questions. We couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of pride in the knowledge and enthusiasm our students showed. The Golden Bell Challenge was a true highlight, and it demonstrated just how well our students had immersed themselves in Vietnamese culture.

Duet with VLS: Fun Instagram Challenges

The final contest, “Duet with VLS” challenge brought a modern twist to the Teachers’ Day celebrations. Participants were invited to participate in a fun and interactive challenge on Instagram. They could choose between two tasks: reading out loud a “Flight Attendant Notification” or engaging in a conversation practice in a restaurant scenario.

The challenge provided an opportunity for participants to practice real-world language skills in a lighthearted and engaging way. The contestants excelled at mimicking the formal tone of a flight attendant’s announcement. 

It was incredible to see how effortlessly our students brought humor and creativity into this challenge. Their performances were both entertaining and educational, with many of them showcasing their growing confidence in using Vietnamese in everyday situations. 

Wrapping Up the Celebration

By blending fun, education, and creativity, these contests not only gave students the chance to express their gratitude but also showcased the talents and passions that lie within the VLS community.
