The Mid-Autumn Festival, known as Tet Trung Thu in Vietnam, is a time of profound cultural significance. Families gather to celebrate the full moon, share traditional mooncakes, and engage in various festive activities. Children parade with lanterns, enjoy lion dances, and immerse themselves in the warm, joyous atmosphere of this cherished occasion. However, in Trảng B, Hamlet 2, the community continues to face significant challenges related to poverty and waste management.
Determined to make a meaningful impact, we are organizing a Mid-Autumn Charity Program in Trảng B, Hamlet 2, Mã Đà Commune, Vĩnh Cửu District, Đồng Nai Province on September 14th and 15th, 2024.

VLS and a Legacy of Community Support
Vietnamese Language Studies (VLS) goes beyond offering educational programs. We’re passionate about giving back through cultural events, art initiatives, and especially projects focused on social and environmental well-being. For the past 16 years, we’ve partnered with various organizations, businesses, and generous individuals to host Mid-Autumn charity programs in communities like Can Gio, Tay Ninh, Suoi Tuong, Bo De Phuong Duy Orphanage, Hieu Liem, and Ma Da. Our approach prioritizes long-term sustainability. In 2022, we renovated the forest road in Trảng B, Hamlet 2, and in 2023, we installed a water filtration system in Cluster 5, Hamlet 3 (both within Ma Da Commune), significantly improving the quality of life for residents.

Trảng B, Hamlet 2: A Community Facing Challenges
This year, our Mid-Autumn Charity Program focuses on Trảng B, Hamlet 2, located deep within the Dong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve. Nearly 40 families call this place home, but they face significant challenges. Their reliance on nature for their livelihoods (farming and manual labor) leads to unstable incomes. Additionally, a lack of awareness about proper waste management has resulted in littering around homes and within the forest. Traditional waste treatment methods, like burying or burning, negatively impact the environment and the community’s health.
The recent emergence of local tourism and campsite rentals, while offering new income possibilities, inadvertently increases waste generation, potentially leading to even more severe environmental consequences.
