“Giận tím người” dùng để chỉ trạng thái bực bội, tức giận mà không thể làm gì để giải tỏa cơn giận đến mức tím người, tím mặt.

“Giận” means “angry”. “Tím” means “purple”. “Người” means “body”. This is a funny way to say that you’re being so angry until your body and your face turn purple.

Rủ tui đi chơi mà cho tui leo cây, giận tím người luôn á.

Thảo nghĩa là cỏ.
Mai nghĩa là mảnh mai nhỏ bé.

“Thảo mai” được dùng để chỉ những người bề ngoài luôn cười nói vui vẻ theo đủ kiểu để làm người khác hài lòng dù điều nói ra đó có thể là không có thật trong lòng mình. Nói theo kiểu “gió chiều nào theo chiều đó” để lấy lòng hay gây thiện cảm. Ví dụ như không thích cái gì đó của ai đó mà vẫn khen và nói hay về cái đó. “Thảo mai” không mang nét nghĩa tiêu cực như “nói xạo/ nói dối/ tráo trở”.

Ngày nay, giới trẻ Việt Nam thường dùng cụm từ này để đùa giỡn với bạn bè, với hàm ý là khi đã là bạn bè thân thiết thì không cần “thảo mai” nữa.

Vietnamese Slang: Chạy mất dép

“Chạy” is to run.
“Mất” is to lose.
“Dép” is slippers.

Người ta thường dùng cụm từ này khi bạn gặp phải một trường hợp đáng sợ, nguy hiểm hay khi bạn muốn trốn tránh việc gì đó nên bạn chạy (trốn) một cách vội vàng đến mức rơi mất dép.
This Vietnamese slang is used in such scared, dangerous situation or when you don’t want to face with the present that you run so fast to escape from it that you lose your slippers (or any kind of footwear).

Vietnamese Slang: Hai lúa

“Hai lúa” có nguồn gốc từ miền Nam Việt Nam. Trong gia đình, người ta thường thêm số trước tên của con cái để chỉ thứ tự. Ngoài ra, với quan niệm đặt tên xấu để dễ nuôi, trước kia ở những vùng nông thôn, tên người thường được đặt theo những sự vật thân thuộc như: lúa, gạo, cam, quýt,… Bởi vậy nên có tên Hai Lúa, tức người anh cả trong gia đình, tên Lúa.

Lâu dần, từ này đã trở thành tính từ và được dùng như từ lóng để chỉ những người lạc hậu, quê mùa, không theo kịp thời đại.

– Trời ơi, cái điện thoại của anh xịn vậy?

– Hai lúa ghê, cái điện thoại này ra mắt được cả năm rồi.
