On May 12th, 2017, VLS’ 20th Teacher Training Program for Teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language was completed with a nice closing ceremony. The 2-month program is aimed at advancing the knowledge of the Vietnamese language and the skills of delivering effective Vietnamese language classes to international learners.
As being a Vietnamese, people tend to think they are expert in Vietnamese language. However, after having finished the course, they know the big differences between speaking Vietnamese and teaching it to foreigners.
We are impressed by the testomonial after the test of Ms. Vân: "Em rất thích câu nói của thiền sư Thích Nhất Hạnh: “Có hiểu mới có thương. Hiểu càng sâu thương càng rộng.” Và em đã tìm được những người thầy cô có tâm huyết với tiếng Việt tại VLS giúp em trở về được cội nguồn thật sự của bản thân. Không thể nào chỉ có ước mơ, kêu gọi mà phải luôn hành động đi cùng. Chính VLS đã góp phần giúp em từng bước hoàn thành tâm nguyện của bản thân: hiểu và thương sâu tiếng Việt - con người Việt hơn; gắn kết cội nguồn."
Nguyên Linh is the one who came first in the final test with an A+. He expressed his deepest thanks to VLS and everyone for giving him a chance to make friends with more people as well as learn more about his mother tongue.
After having finished the teacher training course, Hiên finally knows what to teach and how to teach foreigners. He also thanks Di for helping him with practical methods because with 4 years learning academy Vietnamese, he knows nothing more than just theory.
Thiên Thanh, at that moment, had nothing on her mind but decided to get on the stage to say the sincerely thank to VLS and all the friends in the class for accompanying her on the journey of learning Vietnamese. She also shared her interesting story of the debate with her coworker about using Vietnamese word.
Due to the long distance from his work to VLS, Huy always missed some parts of the lecture. However, he made it to the end of the course with his finest confidence not to wrongly teach his foreigner roommates.
Ms. Vo Thanh Binh, VLS Director, was touched by the meaningful presentations by all participants. She said that it is an unrealistic expectation for a 40-hour course to change beginners into excellent teachers. Instead, she considers success and the goal of the program as to help bring a positive change to each individual.
