Learning Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City - Living in Vietnamese

“Banh Cuon”, requires time and much patience endure the hot steam. A number of factors affect the deliciousness of the dish, including crafting the rice batter (wrappers), the filling, the dipping sauce recipe, or the herb to eat with. Let’s check out these 3 renowned Banh Cuon outlets in Saigon:

Kim Khánh (100/7 Nguyen Cong Tru, Nguyen Thai Binh District, District 1)

The special thing about this stall is its Banh Cuon buffet. Unlike other Banh Cuon shops, you can choose and mix your own Banh Cuon with a variety of wrappers and fillings, which will definitely give you an enjoyable and interesting experience.

With its incredibly diverse menu such as shrimp rolls, salted eggs, and whipping egg whites with 20 side dishes such as chả đùm (grilled chopped beef), bò lá lốt (grilled beef wrapped in betel leaf), heo nướng ngũ vị (grilled pork in five sipcy), etc.with a very affordable price ranging from 3,000 VND to 5,000 VND each.

With the specific selection, your Banh Cuon can be incalculably transformed to your specific preference. Each combination certainly brings its own unique taste as everyone yearns to uncover the restaurant menu.

“A traditional dish served with modern and creative style”. A lot of complement dishes, with soft, chewy, thin-as-sheet rice cake that never bore. It has a nice taste, warm and clean environment, friendly staff, reasonable price with combo, it is a really fun and different way to eat some authentic Vietnamese food.

Hai Nam (11A Cao Thang, Ward 2, District 3)

This is one of the oldest Banh Cuon restaurants in Saigon, and it’s always crowded. Most tables will be filled when you arrive.

Guests love the Banh cuon here due to the quality of the rolls and the nice traditional flavor. Smooth, round rice cakes with stuffed filling of ground pork, small shrimp and black fungus inside makes your Banh Cuon look very appetizing and taste delicious.

The herb to use with the main dish at Hai Nam is also more special by sliced lettuce. The dipping sauce is not so savory, and creates an aromatic taste to your food.

The price of one serving is around 30,000 VND. In addition, you can order extra chả lụa (ham), nem (fermented pork roll) or bánh tôm (fried shrimp cake) to enjoy to the fullest. The outlet is quite long and narrow, but also light and airy. Air-conditioning is available.

And, thankfully, an active wait staff won’t let you wait for too long.

Tay Ho (127 Dinh Tien Hoang, District 1)

Tay Ho is a staple in Sai Gon for its Banh Cuon. It’s been around the city since 1961. If you are a big fan of Banh Cuon, it is impossible for you not to know this restaurant.

Diners are plenty, from the young to the aged, all of whom are fond of the plate of Banh Cuon, which maintains a stuffed filling. The price of each serving (4 rolls) is approximately from 30,000 VND to 45,000 VND. The menu provides a diverse selection of foods.

While the price sounds expensive at first, the quality of the food will satisfy you. The space is clean and well-ventilated. The staff is quick, always wear uniforms, and follow basic hygiene rules by wearing gloves when making the food.

It is a pity for you if you haven’t tried Banh Cuon at Tay Ho restaurant.
