ENGLISH FOR CAREER ADVANCEMENT (ECA)
What is ECA program?
VLS English programs of ECA is designed for those who want to possess English language competence and skills to function at an English environment workplace and business. The programs offer courses of all levels from basic to advanced. The placement test will be given to make sure the learner be placed in the right course so that he/she can maximize his/ her development through the course.
This English language course is designed for learners who are working and preparing for career advancement. The course uses a practical approach to help learners develop important skill. It is designed to develop and enhance the participants’ ability to handle their job effectively in the wide range of business situations (business communication, interviews, emailing, and negotiation skill)

4. Course Duration
The program provides components for a complete course to enable learners to practice speaking and writing in English to both their internal and external customers.
The course can be taught in a weekly class over a period of 10 weeks totaling 36 contact hour and 4 hours of pre and post tests.
5. Target Candidates
Learners who wish to improve their proficiency in English in daily working life.
6. Course Design
Each unit will contain practical speaking skills, which are designed to help develop the business skills needed to meet the objectives of the unit.
After each task, participants will have a short analysis session which will help them think about their performance to move forwarding their proficiency of the language.
There will be listening activities in each unit to provide a model of key language to develop their listening skills.
Short assignments may be given after each session to enable learners to practice their skills during the week.
Each learner will have a pre-course assessment and a periodic assessment during the course to monitor their progress.
7. Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, learners will have achieved the following:
a. Use proper grammar in oral and written communication.
b. Converse with confidence to office colleagues, customers and people they meet in the course of their work.
c. Learn the techniques of listening and asking questions
d. Learn the techniques of asking and answering in the interview.
e. Increase proficiency in English to communicate confidently in a variety of business environment.
f. Increase business writing skills in writing professional letters and emails.
g. Widen their range of essential business vocabulary.
h. Communicate effectively; give presentations in a confident and understandable manner.
i. Improve their telephone skills.
j. Identify and use the appropriate tone, structure and layout for business documents.
k. Confidence to write with greater speed, appropriateness and style;
l. Improve pronunciation and intonation in their speech.
m. Improve the negotiation skills in the business environment.
8. Classroom Set-up
Cluster in groups of 5-10 participants and ample space for group activities,
demonstration, and role-play.
Throughout the course, participants will be assessed on their achievement. Short tests and evaluation of their involvement in the activities will be recorded into their individual record.
A proficiency test will be conducted at the end of the course.
10. Delivery Method
A practical and communicative approach will be used to involve participants in communicating in English. Group discussions, activities and role-play are the key techniques for participants to have hands-on approach.
Quiz, games and cross-word puzzles will be introduced as ice-breakers to motivate the participants.
